My girlfriend and I visited New York recently, on a last minute trip over Labor Day weekend. Luckily, I was able to find award availability on American Airlines, and we used Marriott points to book two nights at the Courtyard New York – Manhattan/Midtown East. Here is a list of our favorite bars and restaurants that we visited.

Da Nico – Little Italy

Right on Mulberry Street in Little Italy, Da Nico offers some wonderful food and a friendly atmosphere. There is street-side seating available, with umbrellas for shade. We chose to sit indoors, however, as it wasn’t quite as crowded. Our server was sufficiently brusque and no-nonsense. We asked for recommendations and his reply was something to the effect of “I’ll surprise you”. We were not disappointed with his choice of calamari appetizer.

The surprising part about Da Nico is that there is a huge courtyard situated behind the restaurant.  Being situated between the surrounding buildings, it is very shaded and welcoming. Please visit and tell them Chantel and Tim from Dallas sent you!

Broom Street Bar – SoHo

Just a few blocks from Little Italy, we decided to stop in for a drink and check this place out. I’m glad we did, since the drinks and staff were amazing. We bellied up to the bar and were instantly greeted by the bartender, Chad. Broome Street Bar serves up good food (those fries!) and has a great selection of beers. Chad will even do a Fireball shot with you!

Tell him Chantel from Dallas says hi!

SoHo Cigar Bar – SoHo

I found this jewel while Chantel was out shopping for clothes. If you are a cigar and scotch person, do yourself a favor and visit this place. Located on Watts Street in SoHo, it offers a laid back atmosphere with open-air seating, a great bar, and a huge  selection of cigars (including some of their own). We met the manager, Michael Dounoulis, who chatted us up for a few minutes, asking about our trip and getting to know us. Be sure to tell him hi from Chantel and Tim from Dallas when you visit!

We love to visit New York, and will always seek out new and unique places to try. Stay tuned for more!
